My job as a photographer is to be aware and respectable of the birth space. I firmly believe in being discrete and respectable while watching your story unfold. Because I have experience personally and professionally in birth, I can easily discern when taking a picture is appropriate. I also like to meet with my clients beforehand to get an idea of what pictures they are looking for.  Some clients are interested in images of the entire birth such as when the baby crowns or pictures of the placenta, though some clients would like pictures of the laboring stages and pictures of the baby in their arms.  A birth photographer is NOT a wedding photographer, etc.  I specifically concentrate on the birth photography industry, and as a doula, I have professional training with the birth process.
